"Loveless Boot" by David Sharp | Custom Alliance #38
There is no doubt that in the world of handmade knives there was no bigger influence than Robert W. Loveless. Loveless was the pioneer of handmade high-performance knives from modern materials that looked as good as they worked. His legendary designs like the drop point hunter, sub-hilt fighter, chute knife and his embrace of high-performance steel and handle materials were the genesis of the current industry of handmade custom cutlery across the world. Loveless was an American institution who freely trained a multitude of young makers in his signature rakish styling and build techniques up until his death in 2010.
After inspecting many maker’s Loveless style knives, we selected David Sharp to make us a custom run of a very popular Loveless design-the full-size Loveless boot. Allowed to study original Loveless patterns and techniques by Loveless’ knife making partner Jim Merritt, Sharp has emerged as one of the top Loveless design makers in the world.
The “Loveless Boot” is not really just a boot knife-it was designed and intended as a concealable fighting knife that was small enough for everyday carry and large enough to be a true weapon. It is simply a gorgeous, signature Loveless design and Sharp’s grinding and finish is nothing short of perfection. From the mirror finished PM154 powdered metal blade, to the polished old-growth burl California Redwood handles-this knife is a real head turner. The sheath is made by Sharp just like Loveless did-cut out and molded by hand and sewn and oiled for a lifetime of hard use.
