"M'Bogo Large Semi-Skinner" by Marcus Lin | Custom Alliance #29
In the Swahili language M'bogo means Cape Buffalo and this knife is stout enough to handle the task of breaking down the smallest to the even the largest game animal. The Semi-Skinner is a famed R.W. Loveless pattern and was designed after many years of field testing and evaluation. It was deemed by many as the professional’s choice in an all purpose field/utility knife for everyday use. This Marcus Lin version of the design is a rare, larger Loveless semi-skinner pattern that he occasionally made for hunters looking for a stouter field blade that could handle any chore.There is no doubt that in the world of handmade knives there was no bigger influence than Robert W. Loveless. Loveless was the pioneer of handmade high-performance knives from modern materials that looked as good as they worked. His legendary designs like the drop point hunter, sub-hilt fighter, chute knife and his embrace of high-performance steel and handle materials were the genesis of the current industry of handmade custom cutlery across the world. Loveless was an American institution who freely trained a multitude of young makers in his signature rakish styling and build techniques up until his death in 2010.
This rendition of the Large Semi-Skinner is rarely encountered by collectors and will put a smile on the face of any custom knife enthusiast. The perfectly hollow ground and mirror polished CPM-154 blade is surrounded by matched African blackwood scales and a stainless steel guard. The sheath is handmade of rugged 9-10 ounce leather of exceptional quality.
